You’re listening to Lingo Phoenix’s word of the day for June 9. Rosé Day Today’s word is electioneer, spelled e-l-e-c-t-i-o-n-e-e-r-i-n-g. electioneering /ɪˌlekʃəˈnɪərɪŋ $ -ˈnɪr-/ noun [uncountable] mainly disapproving the activity of trying to persuade people to vote for a particular political party Critics have dismissed his visit to a shelter for the homeless as an obvious piece of electioneering. Modern electioneering is sophisticated and highly organised. The second example of electioneering is similarly aimed at youthful voters. But the burgeoning Progressive movement sought to make casting ballots a peaceful and orderly experience unfettered by electioneering. — Kate Keller, Smithsonian, 15 June 2018 The rules on electioneering for public employees and officials in Idaho are murky, or nonexistent. — Seth Ogilvie, idahostatesman, 1 Nov. 2017 With your word of the day, I’m Mohammad Golpayegani.
