You’re listening to Lingo Phoenix’s word of the day for November 11. Singles Day Today’s word is wolf, spelled w-o-l-f. wolf /wʊlf/ ●●○ noun (plural wolves /wʊlvz/) [countable] a wolf in sheep’s clothing someone who seems to be friendly or harmless but is in fact dangerous, dishonest etc My grandfather was a wolf in sheep’s clothing – he looked like a sweet old man, but he was really mean. Jesus taught his followers to “beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” cry wolf to keep asking for help when you do not need it, with the result that people think you do not need help when you really need it If you cry wolf too often, people will stop believing you. The administration has cried wolf so many times, it's difficult to know if there's a problem or not. With your word of the day, I’m Mohammad Golpayegani. We love feedback. If you want to email us, our address is podcast@lingophoenix.com , or you can find me directly on Twitter and message me there. My handle is @MoeGolpayegani. Thanks for listening, stay safe, and we’ll see you back here tomorrow with a new word.
