Tale of the Peacock in the Heavenly Garden by Sheikh al-Ishraq, Suhrawardi (Master of Illumination) Sheikh Shahab al-Din Yahya ibn Habash Suhrawardi also known as Sheikh al- Ishraq (Master of Illumination) aka Sheikh Halab aka Sheikh Shahid (Murdered Master) was an Iranian philosopher and founder of the school of Illumination after Islam. Suhrawardi’s illuminationist philosophy is markedly different from the rational based Greek philosophy (Peripatetic c school). Besides his famous book with the title “Hikmat al-Ishraq” which is in Arabic, he has written many other essays in both Farsi and Arabic languages. His intent in many of these writings is to state that the “conscious self” or that which calls itself “I” is the pearl of existence from another universe and has nothing to do with the human body which it is associated with. The true essence of the human being is a drop of water from the infinite ocean of absolute existence.
