A schoolteacher by profession, he wrote about rural life, human relationships, and social tensions without ornamentation. His notable works include Moon di Akh and Katha Kahani, and his stories are often included in Punjabi university curricula.He was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1998 for his short story collection "Moon Di Akh."
