The arrival of trains and buses destroys the livelihood of the likes of Baaru and Kundan who end up clashing with each other, not realising that they both are victims of mechanization of modes of transport. About the author: Santokh Singh Dhir (1920–2010) was a distinguished Punjabishort-story writer, poet and novelist associated with progressive literature.Born in Bassi Pathana, Punjab, he devoted his life to writing about rural society, working people, poverty and social change with realism and deep human sympathy. His notable stories include Koi Ik Svaar, Sanjhi Kandh and Saver HonTak . In 1996, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his short-story collection Pakhi . He was also honoured as Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar in 1991.
